About Diane (1940-2009):

Diane Spicer attended UC Berkeley and received her degree in education. She later earned a Masters Degree in Teaching Reading to primary grade students. In teaching Diane found her true vocation. More than 30 years ago, Diane set up Spicer’s Learning Center in her home. She excelled in teaching reading, math, and organizational skills. Over 800 students came to Diane for tutoring. Her meticulous, creative approach, her superb diagnostic skills, and her unconditional positive regard were instrumental in empowering students to succeed. Diane pioneered the teaching of time management, study and organizational skills to students from elementary school to college. She also inspired and taught more than 20 educators how to teach these lessons, including Ali and Adam Meyers. Diane’s legacy can be seen in the achievements of her many students and the proliferation of her excellent methods among tutors in the Bay Area. We offer The Diane Spicer Memorial Lecture Series in her memory.
